Pros
I actually worked for Lawrence Livermore National Lab but Akima handled the contract. My supervisor at LLNL was the one who supported me. If Akima handles your contract, you may similarly have to work with your work supervisor for job reclassification, new salary, etc.
Cons
When it came to HR, benefits, etc. I found Akima to be subpar. If I called with a question, no one followed up. When I called back, I got different answers before being referred to another person. Considering this is their main function, this says a lot. It may be a different story at other sites and even in other states.
