A culture marked by close supervision, reliance on legacy systems, and sustained pressure with limited recognition - Senior Software Engineer Aker Systems Employee Review

Pros

A small group of exceptionally capable colleagues to work alongside, though morale has understandably declined over time, resulting in a gradual loss of talent.

Cons

Leadership appears more performative than effective, with ambitious statements often unsupported by meaningful follow-through. Genuine guidance or support is rarely evident. Judging by some of the reviews, senior management seems to be particularly satisfied with the workplace.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback, we are very sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your experience at Aker and we value your input on how we can improve in the future. We understand how important morale, support from leadership and management and feeling heard are to a positive work environment. To that end, we do run anonymous employee engagement surveys twice a year to gather in-depth employee feedback, and we’ve be pleased to achieve high participation rates and overall engagement scores which have climbed over the past two years and are 13% above industry benchmark. Leadership is transparent in reporting back out to employees on the results and the committed actions, and we’ve seen many improvements as a result of that employee feedback including benefits improvements, two-way performance feedback, career development frameworks, robust social engagement opportunities and building out more robust management lines. We understand the importance of transparent communication within our organisation at all levels of the business. With our monthly virtual companywide meetings and our annual in-person all hands, we strive to foster transparency, two-way communication and continue a strongly collaborative, positive culture. We recognise that our employees want even more transparency (something that was fed back to leaders from our most recent Employee Engagement Survey) and are actively working to provide more information and follow through. We are committed to providing a supportive, positive and collaborative culture where employees are able to speak freely and be themselves and hold everyone to a strict no retaliation policy to make sure employees feel safe speaking up and providing feedback. If you would like to share more about your experience and how you feel we can improve, please contact HR@akersystems.com.

Pros

Everyone, and I mean everyone, is so talented at what they do and the most accommodating to help in any way they can. Aker has created a friendly, community-spirited environment that is a complete pleasure to work in. It’s rare to find a place where high-level expertise and genuine kindness go hand-in-hand.

Cons

The bar for quality is very high, so it’s not a place where you can just "coast", you have to be comfortable being challenged. Additionally, because the culture is so collaborative, the consensus-building process can sometimes slow down momentum.

Pros

Working at Aker is an incredibly rewarding experience. The leadership team genuinely cares about employee well-being and professional growth. There’s a strong culture of collaboration and I’ve always felt supported in taking on new challenges. The workplace atmosphere is very positive and motivating with colleagues who are not only talented but also kind and approachable - including the CEO. It’s refreshing to be part of a team that’s forward-thinking and genuinely passionate about making a difference - I feel fortunate to work for a company that care so much.

Cons

I have nothing bad to say
