Pros

Great, smart, collaborate people Interesting product always going through changes. Challenging work. Good work-life balance.

Cons

Poor raises for software engineers even after many years of service. Only way to get a raise is to threaten to quit. Sales and marketing get all the bonuses and credit. CEO means well but doesn't value engineering. High turnover causing many delays.

Regarding cons: All engineering staff, besides those who had joined recently received raises in January (which I'm assuming this former employee wasn't around to receive). Most, if not all, Engineering staff were pleased with their raises. Sales/marketing bonus comment is completely erroneous. CEO absolutely values engineering, just as he does sales and marketing and support and IT! He is extremely fair. The few people who decided to move on certainly affected schedules, just as one would expect, however the turnover is well within industry norms in a location like Waterloo where there is high demand for talented developers and many good companies. And clearly their threat to quit didn't result in them getting a raise and staying, as previously proffered. Regarding Advice: This year, we are adding four new developers and a QA specialist to the team above and beyond replacing the few who left. This is a significant investment. Rewards are in place to the extent that budgets allow of course.

Pros

I work in development (been here a while). I had to write a coding/problem solving test (as described by others here, although it has just been changed thanks to these postings (which I came here to see)). People say the test is tough, and it is -- because it works really well as a filter. Don't apply here if you are mediocre -- you won't even earn an interview with the team. Benefits are okay, and are supposed to be improved in January. Casual dress code Compensation is fair to the market. Fantastic work-life balance: people are free to work at home when necessary as long as they remain connected and responsive to the team's needs. The entire company is highly collaborative. People are very helpful within and between departments. Aimetis is doing very well lately: winning big deals away from bigger competition. On Deloitte's fastest 50 growing companies in Canada.

Cons

Office is very cramped, but a second office is being opened in a month, so that will solve it. Bonuses haven't been paid in a couple of years, but I think that will change this year.

Pros

I worked for about 3 years at Aimetis, not based at the HQ office. Great time reporting to people of Canada, very easygoing, honest. Also the remuneration is good. We had the autonomy needed and the technical support when needed.

Cons

After the acquisition we saw considerable changes, specially at the management level, so I saw nice people leaving on account of that. It was a big change and honestly I considered to a lower focus on people and more to financial results, so reducing costs. In addition I believe that for a software company, the releases and new features should be launch more often. And for a end user experience, I would improve the interface - we had a great improvement after changing the version, but it took about 2 year to get stabilized.
