Pros
It is fun and challenging (in a good way) to work with children and the general public. The majority of the staff are nice people who are fun to work with. The center is clean and well maintained by dedicated staff.
Cons
Lack of variety of food/snacks available. Only Subway or bring your own lunch. This means a narrow variety that Subway offers. The salary structure is a bit outdated for many on staff. There are those with higher degrees and more experience than some "managers" who get more work dumped on them, with less pay and respect. There are several managers who openly mention the low pay and badmouth the center and upper management, then turn around and kiss up to them and volunteer their time to do all kinds of extra stuff in some twisted attempt to make them look like the best employees. After the recent major turnover of staff, there are many who are new on staff and don't realize they may be being taken advantage of. Others who have remained, just want to lay low and hope the worse is over. The science center was in dire need of change and a more modern approach to things. Some of that wasn't done right and that led to bad feelings and even some misinformation being spread. Unfortunately there is still some resentment around and people are still uneasy about more changes that are expected over the next few years. I left ASC for something better and hold no grudge. I hope that upper management and the CEO can sort out the issues and keep communication open. That would be key.
