Pros

Dedication to mission Supportive colleagues Work life balance

Cons

Lack of career growth support Executive Leadership Team - a lot of toxicity, gaslighting is rampant; many ET members hoard/abuse their power Dedicated to supporting mission externally, but not internally for staff. They don’t ‘walk the talk’. Leadership is not supportive or understanding of staff with disabilities/neurodivergent Little to no positive feedback even when going above and beyond. Extra effort is not rewarded or even recognized.

Pros

-students and fellow instructors were great to work with. -good office amenities before they got rid of their office.

Cons

-severe lack of instructor support -instructor management was non-technical yet got compensated more -instructors constantly were out for one reason or another (one incident involving harassment from a student), remaining instructors basically worked 2-3x as hard with their absences and did not get compensated for the extra effort. -instructor performance ratings "instructor effectiveness score" (factoring into layoff decisions) were based on an optional, anonymous survey sent to students which was prone to tampering and not statistically significant (low response rate), nor with guaranteed constructive or accurate feedback. -in summer 2022, had a mass hiring spree with exuberant spending on an in-person all-company celebration/retreat in Seattle with a growth outlook, only to do mass layoffs just a few months later. absolutely horrible oversight from leadership causing so much pain to laid off staff members and company culture, not to mention loss of trust. -preaches diversity and equity yet the culture is far from it. -toxic and predatory policies towards students. HUGE fiasco and abysmal communication when internships could not be secured for them. -no career growth after you've moved from associate instructor to general instructor. only compensation increases were for industry adjustments. instructors unofficially "unionized" and uncovered that higher tenure instructors were paid the same as an entry level one. -appreciation for your technical skills and career outlook are FAR better off in a true SWE role, go here only if you want to go into teaching.
