Pros

AF provides a great platform, with a lot of technical benefits. You can feel proud to represent this firm with customers, in general. Very little bureaucracy and structure. Technical meritocracy with virtually no training or investment in people. Good for competent self-starters.

Cons

Poor work/life balance, crap benefits, very little ability to do anything ground-breaking. Completely disjoint with offices all over the place, no investment in tools. Imagine maintaing hundreds of servers by logging into them running shell scripts. Not very efficient. Wheaton management is out of touch with market and actively hostile to customers. Other senior management are great people but lacking in well-rounded business experience. Very insular. Many promises made during hiring process were not kept, not because people are liars. just making promises they couldn't deliver.

Pros

Activ Financial has a unique set of products which differentiate it from its competitors with their multi-tier approach. On top of the multi-tier approach, their hardware accelerated MPU collapses the tiers for an ULL (ultra low latency) affordable solution.

Cons

With the great product, comes egotistical staff which believe in a hierarchical structure that has failed them many times. In my years at working for AF, I saw great potential in the company, which they failed to deliver every time due to ego (really). It is a poisonous political environment driven by who's side you take, rather than the importance of the work and company loyalty/dedication. They do not pay you well, there are no benefits outside of health/dental (no 401k, etc) and they expect you to give in 130% when they barely give you any in return. Activ had great potential a few years back. It is now a sinking ship with many competitors who are putting them to shame. Activ has been out-niched due to their static and ignorant way of adopting with the financial industry technical trends. last time I checked their employee's on LinkedIn, I was baffled to see some of the tittles that certain people now have :) "the blind leading the blind"
