Action Now is a neighborhood-oriented labor and education organizing non-profit. They also have a fledgling policy arm that supports the organizing initiatives through legislative and policy advocacy. The organization is predominately active on Chicago's West and South Sides in lower-income neighborhoods. This small-but-mighty NPO has an extremely principled staff corps and committed membership; everyone associated with the organization is mission driven and engaged. This is a fulfilling environment.

Many of the same hamstrings that come with work in the non-profit sector: lower average pay relative to for-profit, less specialization, and formal process and ad-hoc work. The "wearing many hats" style and mentality can be invigorating, but it can also be a grind. Most of the organizational cons are par for the territory for working for this kind of organization, and the pros of being part of its mission should be considered to offset them by those who are good fits.

You are submerged into organizing and expected to succeed without proper training. Everyone knows and understand what we are fighting for please teach us how to organize. Long hours and stretches of time not knowing wether you are doing what your supposed to.
