Pros

Decent health insurance (though can be a little expensive) Work flexibility (possibly due to the boss I had) Covered parking deck across from the building Great coworkers Bonuses I enjoyed my time at Action Resources. I found it to be a great place to work and would have continued my employment there had I not relocated to a new city. I had a wonderful boss who made coming to work easy and pleasurable. The work atmosphere was very positive and I like that the President would often acknowledge me by name. The company is headquartered in a great area right in the heart of downtown Birmingham, just walking distance to restaurants and Railroad Park.

Cons

No company exists without its faults, however: Very cold indoor temperatures even during winter months. I wore a jacket inside 99% of the time I worked there, and coworkers often complained of the temperature to no avail. In the parking deck, there is falling debris from the ceiling due to the parking deck being very old that could possibly cause damage to your car or even hurt someone if it falls through their windshield. It is an open office layout so the office can be very loud. Talking on the phone can be a pain initially, but you will become accustomed to the loud atmosphere. One of the biggest issues I often dealt with was the lack of communication from terminal managers. At times, it made my job more difficult and frustrating. You earn 1 week of vacation after 1 year of employment, or accrue 47 minutes a week. That means it will take a little over 6 months of employment to earn 1 vacation day. This is very little compared to other companies of the same size where at least 1 week of vacation is given your first year.

Pros

The IT Director and CTO are phenomenal. Communication is key in IT and their skills shine when a directive is given. There were many such cases in which a problem had arose in a random part of the company's workflow(typical events working in IT), and either the director or CTO already were able to provide a clear and sound solution for us to then execute. There were also times where it was slow, very few tickets trickling in and that is a sign that the current infrastructure and the processes they have implemented work very well. As it is a trucking company - they use the industry standard when it comes to their TMS provider, McLeod. I learned a lot in my career from Action, and the knowledge I gained from my Director and CTO is invaluable. If you are sick, or need to work remote in some cases, you are allowed to. Great location downtown with a lot of food options. Solid benefits

Cons

Although it is a great location, Action doesn't cover your parking fee and it is docked from your pay. Along with it being in the prime of downtown, you have to deal with the traffic getting in-and-out of Birmingham which is terrible. Homeless can be aggressive to the general populace in downtown 401k match is only 4%
