Hard but rewarding work, but experience depends on the school. - Middle School Math Teacher Achievement First Employee Review

Pros

The work is challenging, there's no doubt about it. I started teaching at an AF middle school in East New York in the fall of 2015 when I was 26 years old, and stayed for 8 years. I got my butt kicked by the work for sure, and I had more than a few annoyances and frustrations with how I was evaluated, but two years after leaving my school I realize how fortunate I was to learn from two great Principals and so many talented educators.

Cons

Teacher evaluation was always a sore spot, and for me it came down to state test results which we know can be influenced by so many other factors beyond what goes in in the classroom. In my particular case, the decision to over-enroll my grade level (5th grade) lead to very large class sizes where behavior and culture were very challenging.
