Pros

AVTECH designs and manufactures all of their products, both software and hardware. This allows developers to get involved with product design and development at a very low level, and can directly impact the overall success of new and existing products. The engineering department is not locked in to specific tools or languages. Instead, there is a culture of using the right tool for the job. This means that developers can be involved with projects using C, Assembly, Python, PHP, Java, C# and more. In addition to core products, AVTECH also does significant custom work for other organizations, allowing developers to be involved with new and cutting edge technology in other markets. AVTECH is a private company that has been in business for 25 years, yet is still pursuing new and interesting opportunities. For a developer, this means a stable foundation, with the excitement of a startup. AVTECH's benefits are a huge plus. They pay 100% of health and dental coverage for employees and their families. There is a 401k and compensation is competitive. Employees get free bottled water and coffee, and lunch is brought in from time to time. The work environment is very unique, with every employee having a private office in a uniquely renovated mill space.

Cons

AVTECH's growth seems to be outpacing its staffing, meaning more workload for everyone. It is sometimes difficult to know what is going on in other parts of the company since there is so much going on within engineering.
