Pros

I enjoyed the company holidays and the holiday party. Loved corporate obsession with employee engagement scores. The MWAA traffic police.

Cons

Despite taking up a lion’s share of the annual budget, the Tech team is utterly unable to produce anything viable. There is uncertainty and lack of expertise throughout the ranks and especially in Technology senior leadership team. This is evidenced by their constant change. They will try something and when it fails, they will switch the strategy. Latest example of this is the Cloud Migration Project. This has been a fruitless quest lasting 4 years (and still counting) just to do something an average Tech team can accomplish fairly fast. Make no mistake, the failure isn’t because the board members are reluctant to modernize their technology stack, they aren’t. They have invested many millions of dollars to make the cloud dream a reality (even hired at least 5 different consulting companies to help). At the end of the day, the technology strategy is destined to fail because it is not a result of some deep understanding of what the customers want or what the business needs. Rather it is created based on the latest Gartner report. Beyond a few good employees in technology, ranks are populated by people who severely lack understanding of the business needs and correct level of focus on our customer.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback; however, it is important to clarify some information that is not accurate. We are fortunate to have a board that understands the business value of our technology direction and strategy and supports it. As a result, we have only had one Cloud Migration Strategy. In 2019, we began our cloud migration effort with an assessment and planning phase to complete the migration with no service interruptions. Our systems support billions of dollars of airline revenue each year, and we take that responsibility seriously. We have already completed migrating all of our targeted customer-facing workloads to AWS with no industry impact. As a result, we improved resiliency and reliability, lowered operational costs, and improved scalability while staying under budget. Over the course of our migration, we enlisted the help of two other organizations to organize and execute it. As a learning organization, we recognize areas where we have the expertise and where we can benefit from outside assistance and knowledge transfer. All of our new development is in the cloud. We have partnered with AWS Professional Services and an AWS partner to provide a comprehensive enterprise cloud platform to ATPCO developers. Finally, Our Product Division uses a Design Thinking approach to ensure that our customers are always at the center of any development effort. The Technology Strategy is designed to support that development in an agile, modern, cloud-centric way.

Pros

People are nice. Remote work.

Cons

It's dull - you'll have very little growth. People are comfortable doing the same thing they've done for years. There's very little going on. Pay is below industry average.
