Merchandiser - Merchandiser ATA Retail Employee Review

Pros

The environment of the grocery stores. The people there were very friendly and I made lasting friendships even after I left ATA.

Cons

The pay rate is abominable. They give you 25 cent raises per year. The target time they give you is not enough time to do the job. They continually send distribution items that you have to find space for in the store and sometimes can't. However, you spend a lot of time searching for places to hang these things no one wants. The other vendors especially the wine vendors and the soda and beef jerky vendors are constantly taking the strips down and throwing them in the back room. It is a constant fight with some of the store personnel to get your job done. They want you to use the smelly old carts in the back instead of one of their shopping carts. I could go on and on. If you have any self respect whatsoever, you will not work for ATA. They are simply the worst.

Pros

Very autonomous, like having your own business. Supervisor and upper management are very hands off. Nobody looking over your shoulder. A nice bit of extra money each month, but not much - this is not a career.

Cons

As all of these reviews stated, the pay is so low for what you actually have to do. Most of the stores don't want your products or to deal with ATA, so they can be disrespectful. There is no reward for increasing your sales. In the fourth quarter, merchandisers are inundated with extra product "to increase your 4th quarter sales" but there is no incentive to do so. They are making a lot of money of your hard work, with absolutely ZERO going to the merchandiser. $11 for a job anywhere in California is really hard to swallow. No raises.
