Pros
AMRDEC as a whole was a positive experience. Most of the people are passionate about what they do, and are highly capable. Coworkers are supportive, and due to the large nature of the function, there is little in-fighting among staff engineers. Expectations are reasonable, and the environment is dynamic.
Cons
Upper management did not have a good mechanism for incentivizing technical progression, so the management route seemed like the best option for advancing your career. For similar reasons, there was a small number of people that did not have motivation to work hard, and there were no mechanisms for compensating accordingly. Upper level management was constantly in transition, which made the path forward murky at times.
