      Pros

      Good equipment, professional image, and vast resources.

      Cons

      Parochial management at local offices throughout the regions I was employed. No shortage of backstabbing and gossiping. Though a training ground for many a future fire fighter, the organization shows a desire to make EMS more than it is, but has struggled with how to define this quest. The result has left numerous healthcare executives I have interacted with amused, to say the least.

      Career growth opportunities, supportive coworkers, opportunities to learn and develop, ability to advance if you stay engaged and work hard

      Cons

      Healthcare/EMS can be demanding, long hours at times, stressful days, and workload can be heavy depending on staffing and operations. These things aren’t specific to AMR, that’s our industry in general.

      Pros

      AMR San Mateo is making huge strides in changing the Old Boy culture of EMS. The operation is collaborative, cares for its employees, and acts with accountability.

      Cons

      Although it's much better than it was, AMR San Mateo still deals with staffing issues, primarily for medics, and forced mandation is still in play.
