Pros
As an FSE: I get to travel to many places. I can use the points and status for my company card achieved with airlines and hotels for personal use. Expense reports are processed quickly. I work on systems used by some of the best research scientists on the planet. I have freedom to solve problems, but have a lot of people who will back me up when I see something unfamiliar. Required web-based training is actually pretty good. Best of all, I have an *amazing* boss.
Cons
Benefits are OK, but could be better or more mainstream. OJT more than official schools. Because each installation is specific and many are unique, it's easy to have the wrong parts show up or have parts be missing when you are ready for installation or service.
