Pros

Free movies. Some coworkers are great people dealing with the same challenges.

Cons

Compensation structure is extremely discouraging for a sales role. You’re paid roughly $19–$20/hour with no commission or performance-based bonus tied to sales. The only bonus opportunity is the standard corporate AIP, which is not directly tied to individual performance. For a role labeled as “sales,” this is a major red flag. Worst paying sales job in the Kansas City job market. You will work 2,000 - 3,000 leads, bring in over $750,000 in revenue and get paid about $40,000 with no commission opportunities for it. You’ll be expected to manage anywhere from 2,000–3,000 leads with no true CRM system in place. Everything is handled through Outlook and Excel, which makes organization, follow-up, and tracking inefficient and outdated. Setup to fail. There is a separate “Rentals” team that operates on salary plus commission/bonus, while Group Sales does not. In practice, Group Sales often acts as a booking liaison for Rentals and follows their processes, even when they don’t fit Group Sales workflows. This team is allowed to book events with an event fee, so they get priority on pay + say. This is due to leadership gatekeeping the fees Group Sales can charge, to keep revenue and pay packages down. They are leaving millions of $$ on the table, solely to not step on the toes of Rental reps. This has created ongoing friction between teams and adds unnecessary complexity to the role. It has been years of this. The internal booking system (built in-house) has frequent issues and adds friction to an already difficult process. Structure and leadership are inconsistent. The Group Sales team has been moved between departments multiple times with limited direction. Morale reflects this. Turnover is high, and multiple team members raised concerns about the work environment and leadership toward the end of 2025 to HR. I left due to this work environment. In my experience, this stems from lack of support, poor execution, and unclear direction. Overall, the role is underpaid for the workload and set up in a way that makes long-term success difficult.
