Pros

There are some kind people who work there, or used to be at least. Clients are wonderful, fascinating people and the projects are interesting, challenging, and rewarding. If you want to make money and your main motivator and goal in life is amassing money - this is the place for you.

Cons

The work environment is described as "fast paced" which translates into a complete disregard for personal life and health. Saying "no" or even hesitating when a new task/client/project is handed to you (no matter how much you are already at or above capacity) is interpreted as "hatred for AIIR". Make sure you NEVER ask questions or give a hint of disagreement when you're around the CEO. After a presentation of annual goals, he once asked "OK, so what questions do you all have?" *Dead silence* "No, really - what are your concerns/questions/thoughts. I really want to know." I was young and naive and asked a fairly simple question about the upcoming plan. The next morning my manager pulled me aside and made sure I knew "Jonathan was so pissed off that you would dare to question him." I wish I had left then. Do not be lured into a false sense of security at this place - if you step out of line, express any emotion other than worship/gratitude/undying devotion to the CEO and the company, he will come for you. The leadership board will not protect you. After he screams or berates you, others will say "that's just how he is" "he's not going to change, so you're just going to have to get over it" "you can't take it personally" "he's obviously a terrible person but he owns the company so there's nothing I can do". There are countless stories I could tell, but they're so extreme that I worry those of you reading won't believe them. Ask around about the current attrition rate here - people have been leaving in droves. If you want to know the real story, reach out to former employees on LinkedIn. Do not believe what they tell you in the interview process because those who are left are either completely bought in and have drunk the Koolaid or they are too afraid to be honest because of what happens to people at AIIR who don't tow the line. Gaslighting takes place often - they will do their best to make sure you believe you're the reason you get treated so poorly. You're not "strategic" "fast" "team-player" enough and you're "toxic" "ungrateful" "useless". If you decide to work here, please go in with your eyes wide open and don't believe everything you hear. Don't stay so long that your physical and mental health suffers the way many of us did. Get out while you can remember that no one deserves to be screamed at, cursed out, berated, slandered, and threatened - no matter how much money that person makes the company or who they are to the CEO (or if they are the CEO).

Pros

AIIR is full of genuine, down-to-earth, and talented people. Everyone, from internal team members to senior leadership to the consultant community, are so generous with their time and expertise, and there’s a real sense that everyone is rowing in the same direction (and enjoying it too). Bottom line: the culture is super welcoming and supportive, and the work is both challenging and meaningful. It’s also pretty unique to work at a firm that invests so intentionally in its pro bono work. AIIR puts real time, energy, and resources into supporting nonprofit organizations, not just talking about it. One of the many reasons I feel proud to be working here!

Cons

Like many growing organizations, some processes and systems are still evolving. On the flip side, it also means there’s room to be flexible in responding to client needs.

Pros

Strong and rigorous frameworks around coaching, leadership assessments and leadership development content.

Cons

Out of touch understanding of how to actually care for people, lack of sincerity when dealing with staff of color, out of touch with principles of belonging, hierarchical "ivory tower" behavior.
