Pros

The money, the work matters, and the colleagues at lower levels are brilliant. Lower level staff are committed to the purpose and there is a 'we are in the trenches together' mentality that bonds junior and mid level staff

Cons

Management are abhorrent. They use your personal circumstances against you to suggest you cant do your job ( things that should command compassion like the death of immediate family and ongoing health conditions). There is no sensitivity and a toxic culture of bullying. The staff that stay are there because a) the pay is good b) they've been bullied so long they dont realise how bad it is compared with other workplaces and they lack confidence to leave and c) they actually care about the reason for ahpras existence and the work that is done.

Pros

Met some good people while working here and a few teams are genuinely supportive.

Cons

The culture is toxic and pretty frustrating, especially around recruitment and internal opportunities. It often feels like decisions aren’t consistent or based on merit. Even when you take on feedback from interviews, the outcome doesn’t always reflect that, which makes it hard to understand what’s actually required to progress. There’s a strong sense that who you know matters more than performance, which impacts morale and trust across teams.
