Pros

Tbh the benefits are the best I've ever had. I had to increase my salary by over $10K at my next job to compensate for the benefits I received here. You get a low-deductible health plan at no cost to you. Anything I ever needed healthcare wise was always covered, and most of the time, in full. Great location in Chinatown. The building is beautifully renovated and there's a killer rooftop.

Cons

The other one and two star reviews are spot on. Your entire experience here is dictated by your immediate boss and your team, but unfortunately you wont know if it will be great or absolute hell until after you start. (Pro: its bearable for the long-term if you get a good manager) The organization as a whole needs a complete overhaul and it might be coming with the new CEO but it is hard to tell. Its mentioned in other reviews that the org definitely needs to trim the fat and reassess what it is they are even trying to accomplish anymore. There are whole teams that do completely insignificant work (e.g. whatever the heck that customer service group is??). Some whole CLUSTERS do nothing at all (e.g. MedEd). There is rampant nepotism and ethically unsound use of funds. I've seen managers contract out work to businesses owned by family members/spouses. They pay lip service to "diversity" and if you are not-white and selected to an all-white team you WILL be treated like a diversity hire (bc you likely are). They will also go out of their way to pay you less because of it. And you can completely forget about ever getting promoted if you're not white - at the very least you'll have to change teams but most likely you'll have to leave org. All of the managers are incompetent at actual management, even when they are quite skilled in their field, b/c the organization is set up that way. Management candidates that will challenge the status quo are outright rejected for that quality - they only hire/promote managers who are quiet and can be controlled. B/c of this, you'll either be micromanaged beyond anything you've ever experienced or completely left alone to learn your entire role on your own. I've held different positions on different teams and every time, I moved departments I was lied to about what the position was and what the work was. I don't think it was malicious - its just again, the managers don't know how to do basic people management tasks. On paper and in the interview it will sound amazing and like a great match for your skills. In practice, you'll spend your day either begging for work or drowning in annoying administrative and customer service tasks. Despite all of the nepotism, I never recommend this place to my friends or family. If you are a non-manager and/or non-white find alternatives - this place is just going to drain you.

We are aware that there is some inconsistency with our supervisors following AAMC procedures and best practices therefore we’ve rolled out a 3-course mandatory supervisor training to better align supervisors of all experience levels on what the AAMC expects of them regarding recruitment and supervising employees.
