Pros

- small company - lateral experience - implement new software often - constant change in the company (may be pro for some, con for others) - free muffins/cake daily - flexible hours/ability to leave for doctor appointments, picking up kids, etc.

Cons

- constant stress over who will be let go next. reason is often that they were “not a good fit” - salaries on the low end - work environment is not professional at times - limited potential for promotions for many positions - no compensation for overtime

Pros

Can get baked food to eat

Cons

Not good job for new-comer. Company hires and make quit people very soon. Not competitive salary. Workload is more. More stress as your job is insecure all the time. Hiring procedure is too dramatic. Specific community is working in the plant and getting promotions. No area of growth.

Pros

Free coffee - the good kind! Fun BBQs during the summer. Very family oriented - lots of birthdays and special events celebrated in the building. Everyone is very friendly, you develop great friendships and camaraderie from people of all ages, all walks of life. Good opportunities to learn for fresh grads who are willing to learn and put in the time to gain experience. A great look into the ins and outs of the food industry. Growing company, massive growth within the last 10 years or so. Very niche based - which can be also a con.

Cons

Very high turnover for a small company. On estimate, about 10+ people are "let go" in one year. And apparently, this is well known in the industry, but unbeknownst to most just starting a career. Employees do not have job security. They feel motivated when times are good, and lose motivation when someone is let go - and unfortunately, this is quite a repeating cycle that is very hard to ignore. People gossip and wonder who is next. It is very unsettling especially for new people starting in the company. There is no clear reason why employees are let go - most people guess that they did not get along with the owners or have had opposing ideas or discussions with them. Personality and chemistry with the owners and a few long-standing employees are key, and will determine how long you will be advanced and encouraged in the company. Lots of growing pains for the company, lots of difficulties figuring how to advance, who to say "no" to or how to find the next niche business especially in an industry that is under attack, selling sweets and carbs. No clear strategy. Employees have difficulty figuring out what opportunities to take only to be told that this is not the way they should be going.
