Pros

The company culture on paper sounds great and they do offer a lot of courses of continued education. If they like you, there is room for career development.

Cons

They are quick to cover their bases if an employee is not up to par. They expect a lot out of their individual employees, but take very little time in investing with what they actually need. Regardless of performance in your overall job function, they will be quick to write you up for small mistakes and tell you it is purely so it is documented for HR. If you complain about the long hours or bring an issue to their attention, do not be surprised if there is retaliatory action taken against you. They are very quick to low ball you on salary and say 14 hour days are their "standard".

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. On behalf of the leadership team at Convene, we appreciate your candor and courage to be transparent. It is our top priority to also be transparent while doing our best to communicate effectively to all members of the Convene team. However, with any high-growth company that is expanding rapidly, there are growing pains and areas of improvement to work on. We are disappointed to hear that your experience with Convene to date has not aligned with our intention of being a best place to work. Because of employees like you that are willing to discuss the challenges you’ve experienced, we can learn and improve ourselves as a company. As CEO, I am always willing to listen to feedback and make changes where necessary, so we can continue to strive to be 1% better every day. I would like to have an opportunity to discuss your feedback directly. Or, if you feel more comfortable and would prefer to speak with a member of the People & Culture team, we can arrange that as well. Please reach out to my assistant Jamie (jslee@convene.com) to find us a time to discuss. Thank you, Ryan Simonetti, CEO & Co-Founder, Convene

Pros

Free snacks, nice office spaces

Cons

Upper Management does not listen and you are consistently blamed for things instead of everyone being held accountable for their piece of the mistake. Ryan Simonetti finishes every review with his email address so you can contact him about issues within the company, when in my experience, if you speak out, you get into trouble. I won’t go into further details but in my case, I viewed some actions taken by upper management to be out of line, so much so that I had to speak with HR about it. Nothing was done to protect me as an employee. The company took a nose dive with the departure of Chris Kelly. The company culture from when I started back in 2018 has completely disappeared. Companies change, but they should change for the better, not worse and it would be great if leadership stopped making excuses for this issue (COVID, structural changes, etc.) and instead recognized the part they play in creating this negative environment. It is a toxic culture and there is very little diversity. They had so many opportunities to turn things around and I’m really not sure how they’ll recover now. It’s a shame because I met some amazing people here and they deserved better.

Hi, and thank you for writing this review. First of all, I am deeply concerned that you felt like speaking out could lead to repercussions for you. We have a very transparent culture at Convene and I can assure you that leadership truly listens to our employees and makes changes as a result. We recognize that we are far from perfect, and sometimes actions/changes take longer than we'd like them to, but we deeply care about the feelings of our employees and have open lines of communication for that reason. I put my email in all of my Glassdoor responses but I genuinely want to listen and learn as much as I can. My door is always open. Regarding your comment about diversity, it's important you know that we are also deeply committed to making changes to become a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable company. Unfortunately, this is not something that can happen overnight. But, actions speak much louder than words so I want to share some of our short/long term plans to address this. Until we ramp up again with hiring, we are focused on rewriting internal policies to be more inclusive, sponsoring internal trainings related to unconscious bias/conscious inclusion, launching a commitment to sourcing products from more diverse-owned businesses, and hosting a series of conversations with our Employee Resource Groups to have more open dialogue around race, sexual orientation, inclusivity, intersectionality, and more. Longer term, we will implement robust hiring practices such as new university partnerships and blind resume reviews (to name a few) to ensure more diverse candidates enter our pipeline across the board - everywhere from internships to our leadership team. I agree with you that it is extremely important that we have more diverse ideas and experiences present across all teams within the company. Finally, I am saddened to read that you feel like Convene does not care for or prioritize our employees. We have gone above and beyond to invest in our team members for the last 10+ years, and are always looking for ways to improve the employee experience. While I am sorry your time with Convene ended with you feeling like we did not live up to our expectation of being a "great place to work," I hope you know that we will always keep trying to be 1% better for our new and current team members. As I mentioned above, my door is always open if you'd like to set up time to chat about your feedback further at rsimonetti@convene.com. With Gratitude, Ryan Simonetti, Chief Executive Officer
