The latest conversations about Tech

Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

Heavy upfront investment in new employees to help them feel part of the team. Efficient organizational structure that allows rapid growth for those hungry for it. Excellent benefits and employee perks.

[Potential Con] Company often leans hard into its religious and ideological roots, which can be off-putting depending on your upbringing. However, this is *usually* done in a respectful and mostly agnostic way. Disconnects between teams can be quite significant, especially with the hybrid work environment. Role definitions and resulting compensation can sometimes be fuzzy.

Thanks so much for your honesty and willingness to share, we value your input and feedback and are glad to hear you feel respected. Although a number of adjustments on this journey to building a healthy hybrid environment have been made, we appreciate your concern about the need for teams to stay well-connected. We welcome the opportunity to discover possible solutions so, if you'd like, please feel free to reach out to your supervisor or HR.

The people and the culture, the benefits, the overall work experience. Working Herr is worth waking up for, day in and day out.

It's not the right fit for everyone, those that do, they thrive, those that don't, they survive.

      Interview Tips

Feel free to post any interview questions you might be asked and I’ll help you compose an effective response :)

      Case Analyst

Just venting: Is anyone else fed up with the usernames, passwords, authentication codes, email verification, etc.? Most hiring companies use workday, items, and Taleo but each company on those sites requires a different password. It is just another layer to the job search process.

      Project Coordinator

I recently had an interview with a hiring manager. The conversation went well in my opinion and they ended it by saying they would “like to schedule a day for me to meet their team and get a feel for the projects they’re working on and then have the conversation about what I’m looking for as far as compensation.” I’m not sure what to expect from this, a part of me feels like this means they might want me for the role, but the process is a little unorthodox from my experience. Any thoughts?

      Durham University

Does anyone know the competency based questions you’ll be asked for a Business Development Analyst role at Aon? I have an upcoming pre-recorded online video interview that I have to submit within 7 days.
