Pros

Free lunch up to $8. Education on how to hedge mortgage pipelines. Introduction to executing securities trades with. Exposure to mortgage capital markets. Matching 401k.

Cons

Poor management from the top down. Desk managers have little training on how to manage employees. Extreme micromanagement of staff - time spent on client interaction, trading and ad hoc projects logged into tracking software. Business is way understaffed and employees are overworked. Salaries are not very competitive relative to the market and the jobs that are performed. No dental or vision benefits. Little upward mobility - minority partners all continue to perform the same menial tasks as "newbie" employees with little experience. Firm is extremely cheap with regards to travel accomodations and client entertainment. E.g. sharing AirBnB with multiple employees or even strangers when traveling, not reimbursing employees for dinner expenses, etc. Firm places very little value on employees, resulting in abnormally high turnover.

Pros

I can't speak for more experienced hires, but the salary potential at Compass is extremely strong for less experienced professionals. I started at Compass 3 years removed from college and was making nearly double my previous income after 1.5 years at the firm. In addition to learning a lot about the mortgage industry, I also developed quite a bit as a professional as you're really forced to own your work, both for the good and the bad. The sense of entitlement in the other reviews is beyond preposterous based on my experience. I would have stayed at Compass for at least a while longer if it were not for a dream opportunity that came about out of nowhere from prior networking I'd done.

Cons

Because of the nature of the job being on a trading desk, expect to be in your seat from 8am-5pm every day, all day. There is a lot to learn, both in terms of industry knowledge and skills within the software. You can and will get left behind if you're not putting in the effort to learn and ask questions. The old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the grease is certainly true here.

Pros

The business development is very strong and management makes great decisions for stronger growth in the future. Very smart group of people and hard working.

Cons

I think the culture is a bit toxic, and seems most actually hate their job. Management is always hovering over you with whatever you do. The expectations are not clearly set and often what you think (or what was discussed) you will be doing is not actually what you do. There is no work life balance and salary is meager at best. Management is not considerate or compassionate about employee needs or health (many people came in very sick out of fear of calling in sick).
