Pros

Colleagues are nice. They do have good benefits but I have also been looking into other job opportunities and realize that most employers now offer the same benefits. So, please don't settle or stay with the organization because you think they're benefits are good.

Cons

It's actually a scary time right now at CompTIA. I've been with the company several years and the amount of people I have seen just randomly let go is insane. HR and the CEO have no feelings and do not even think twice about letting someone go. I have seen the older employees get talked into early retirement. People that have been with the company for 10-15 years get laid off. I'm sure they have had valid reasons for being let go but the way they go about doing it, is so unprofessional. I have never worked in an organization that has no regard to the employee. Most unprofessional organization there is. It's about how much you kiss up and who you know. Salaries are way below average. Only people that get paid well is upper management. We also put on way too many events. waste of money and resources. Job responsibilities are constantly changing.

Pros

Tech industry is always exciting, though this is not a tech company

Cons

There are so many problems with this organization, it's hard to rank them. Thanks to a poor top management and CEO, favoritism runs rampant. Really rampant. Good opportunities for advancing the organization are missed, while good money is wasted on badly conceived ego-boosting projects that ultimately fail or under perform. The HR and Marketing departments are especially weak, with highly mediocre management. There's a lack of coherence in planning between the HQ and other offices. Good people have either left or been shown the door during the last year or two, for dubious reasons. There are more problems, but this gives the picture.

Pros

Beautiful office space, good work from home program, a lot of revenue from certifications, huge potential in this industry if we had competent leadership, most of the rank and file staff are awesome people

Cons

The executives are a clique that place blame on other people to coverup their own mistakes and take credit when they didn't have anything to do with a success. The CEO is the ringleader of this behavior. He is only a CEO in title. His behavior is that of a petulant child with money. He has created a divisive, backstabbing culture. How does he sweep so many major mistakes that cost us so much money and time under the rug? Doesn't the board or someone review and judge all of the failures. With the money the certification program makes, we could do so much more for our members if we didn't squander it all. Never tell HR anything negative about anyone above you. She will run right to the CEO and you'll be blacklisted and probably fired. Most of the other executives are "yes" people. If you agree on something with your boss and the CEO disagrees, your boss will throw you under the bus for having a stupid idea. Growth is limited to people inside the CEO's inner circle. It doesn't matter how well you do your job, you will generally get a standard raise and maybe a meaningless new title. This might be a pro or a con depending on where you live, but I'm putting it as a con because Downers Grove is a far western suburb and not super easy to get to.
