Pros

CollinsWoerman has just completed a modest refresh/remodel to their offices and the office looks amazing; fresh, bright, team space for teaming and lunch time conversations and presentations. The Interior Design staff should be given major credit for doing so much for a tight budget - it is a great selling tool for new customers too.

Cons

No trust. Many employees at all levels feels discounted, disconnected, dishearten and disconnected - Oh I already said that from the couple who seem to have the owners ear. Information does not flow easily; no celebration of wins. Despite the beautiful new remodel, it's depressing to come to work; no one talks, little camaraderie. All customer focus which is important but those doing the work get nothing; no thanks, and certainly no rewards.

Really liked my bosses, too much office politics

Pros

The CFO really has a good head on his shoulders and a good heart. There are some amazing people at CollinsWoerman, and I was often touched by unexpected kindness. Many of the higher-level architects seem quite happy there. The benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Office politics negatively impacts the work environment. It was a major source of stress for me. I just wanted to do my job and do it well, and it's distracting when you feel like people who aren't your boss are constantly watching you, judging you, and micromanaging you. The politicking tends to pull many of the younger employees this way and that, and it seems like most of the lower-level staff are not happy at CW. I also wish there were more women and more ethnic diversity at CollinsWoerman. I am a firm believer that diversity brings a lot of value to workplaces, and CW could use more of it.

Pros

The projects and clients are great; innovative and diverse in nature. With many areas of practice the company survives when one area is a little lean and another thrives.

Cons

Whether you are employed by CW for 1 year or 30; you have very little say; no one listens. Every little decision, request, expenditure, suggestion is second guessed and the typical first response is NO. There is very little if any opportunity to advance; you can get a title but there is no transition plan in place; they do not keep within the competition advances in ownership, salary adjustments or bonuses. All money is put into R&D for a firm leadership funded subsidiary. No matter what level of education anyone receives they will be pigeonholed into the position for which they were hired i.e. the office boy will never be a principal. People leave because there is no career path unless you have an advocate - how does one get an advocate without some real sucking up? You don't. By then it's too late - other talents are leaving and no one cares - they weren't a good fit anyway is the company line.
