Pros

Decent infrastructure for data management.

Cons

Codexis just laid off a fifth of their workforce 3 months ago under the auspices of having budgetary problems. Now they are looking to hire again at several positions that were just closed out but at much lower salaries. Many of the positions laid off had only been hired in the past two years. The business opportunities have not changed significantly in that time and the company continues to lose money and their interest in biotherapeutics and gene therapy does not bode well in a field saturated by more experienced and qualified competitors. This is a company not interested in the best for it's people and they are not advancing their own scientific prowess enough to maintain a strong position in the field (hence their constant posting of quarter after quarter of negative income). The facilities are not modern and bare by bay area standards. Management is stale and you will find yourself constrained enormously in professional growth. Projects are started and closed for the most flimsy of reasons, often at great expense and zero output. Steer clear.

Pros

Very good medical benefits PTO policy and work/life balance are very fair Nice, easy access location on the waterfront near the port of Redwood City

Cons

Mass layoffs by email are disrespectful and inhumane to the employee base The upper management team is perceived to be an exclusive club who doesn't care about the plight of the workers The current environment of anxiety, suspicion, distrust, and fear may take years to correct and improve The company may not survive very long. It appears it's being set up for an eventual sale rather than a recovery, but that's only one person's impression.

Pros

Nice commuter benefits. Good Healthcare benefits. Full 401K matching if you can afford to contribute to it.

Cons

Any position below scientist is purely low paid labor with little to no career development prospects. The company does not seem to care about their employees professional development. If you are looking for a place to garnish your resume with experience this is a good fit but don't expect a livable salary in the meantime. Passive aggressive management and aggressive aggressive management leads to massive turnover rates.
