Pros

Perks in office (meals, fun activities etc). In-Office: Great atmosphere. Remote Workers: Ability to work from home.

Cons

I've been with this company for approx a year and I'm actively looking elsewhere. In the beginning, the mission, the goals, the owner and upper management are all fairly impressive. As time goes on however, the real motives are starting to shine through. That being: pushing staff beyond reasonable limits (profitability, profitability, profitability!), inconsistency from CEO (some kind of passive-aggressive, Bi-Polar Disorder and/or ADD), poor training and the penchant for throwing you under the bus in a flash. The spend-thrifting micro-management is embarrassing after boasts of MULTI-million dollar investments. Pay is great, perks are noteworthy, but losing your soul in such a toxic, ever-shifting, unstable and completely erratic company is highly unadvised. If however you are lacking in ethics, morals, consciences and are impervious to heartless management, this might be the place for you. (The positive feedback you find listed in Reviews were FORCED on current staff and invested management; I can attest to this first-hand).

What a mess!

Pros

Flexibility, they'll let you work from home and be somewhat flexible on your hours. BackOps is a modern company that is always on the edge of new technology. They also bring lunch into the office for those on site which is a great perk. They try to boost culture with activities such as wearing costumes, hats, etc. It's silly, but what else do you do to promote culture when you have a primarily remote workforce?

Cons

BackOps knowingly underpays their employees because they offer "intangible benefits". What this translates to is taking advantage of vulnerable women who are having a hard time reentering the workforce. BackOps operates under the guise of a mission driven company that cares about women's empowerment when the bottom line is that the brilliant execs found a way to source qualified women who want work life balance and using them as cheap labor. Don't expect loyalty or warmth in reality, even though the interview process feels completely opposite. They prefer not to hire men because men ask for more money and won't continue to stay underpaid. (Not an assumption, I was told this by leadership). They also systematically weed out older individuals based on "knowledge of technology". There is no structure at BackOps, they often don't know what they're doing. Yes, it's a startup but this goes beyond the general hit and miss of startup life. They don't even have an employee handbook. If something goes wrong they're quick to throw you under the bus, it's a small company where the leaders won't accept responsibility. It's a schizophrenic environment in that they can't decide if they want to be a service based organization or a software company.

Pros

Lunch is catered and the company provide good benefits. The office is also located downtown which is convenient for public transportation.

Cons

The company is on a downhill trajectory, make sure you do your research and speak to former employees - this is a bad place to work. They are running out of money, so they are behaving in a desperate manner. The workplace environment (what is left of it, after all of the terminations) is toxic. The remaining good people should stop drinking the CEOs kool-aid and just leave. If you don't conform, you'll get fired.
