Plagued by Technical Debt

Pros

Not much compared to the highly competitive bay area tech scene. This review is meant to be objective. It's a warning to anyone applying for an position here. I still have many friends who work here. There are lots of smart, hard working people here. Unfortunately, they're not listened to. This company has enormous potential. It needs a radical change to unlock it and grow: it needs to shed its old self to progress.

Cons

No one recognized and accepted how much technical debt really exists in the core intellectual property. To this day, several fundamentally flawed designs plague the product. There was no room to make any improvements and fix the big problems. Too many easily bruised egos. Also, management is unfortunately blind to this fatal flaw. "Just keep adding features, everything is okay, don't look into problems that aren't assigned to you!" is the mantra I heard over a dozen times.

Pros

Bring pets to work, free snacks, SF office, food carts, good views

Cons

1. Dysfunctional Management 2. Big company culture - the management is from companies like SAP, Apple etc.. so they are very cut throat. 3. No processess 4. Alpine is a wanna be "start up" 5. They don't value their own people 6. People leave this company all the time for no apparent reason 7. Management has a culture of firing people randomly. 8. Stressful environment 9. Make you work long hours and expect you to work on weekends. 10. The friends i made at this company who left had very bad experience. DO NOT work for this company. Its not worth it. They have empty promises.

This review contains fraudulent information. We do not currently have any employees with the exact title of "Data Scientist", and no one working in the Data Science department has been with the company for more than a year. We value our staff and many of our employees have been promoted to lead and management roles. We have an unlimited vacation policy which allows for a great deal of flexibility. However, it is true that we have fantastic views from our San Francisco office!

Pros

Option to bring dogs to work.

Cons

No training. Worse management experience every!!! Not all the departments were in sync with one another. Certain people were favored over others. Office manners were no where to be found. HR was more of an offer manager rather than professional help. People were fired for no reason and with no warning. Everyone was dispensable, no matter how senior or how long you have been with the company. The CMO had the most unrealistic expectations and tasks assigned to people. The CMO would email work related things at odd hours of the night, and effected my personal life. I found myself to be working on weekends. The CMO would set people up for failure. Some people left the company unexpectedly. No effort to build relationships in the work place. Everyone kept to themselves. I was made big promises but in reality there was nothing. I was not happy with how i was treated and how abruptly i was let go.

Hey there, fellow Alpinist. Thanks for your review. Your comments about training are correct. Although we have a product training for our customers, we haven't made that available to new employees. It's a great idea, and we're going to pursue it. Some of your other comments are a little difficult to reconcile with the general sense that I get from talking to our current employees. For example, we have weekly lunches, social events and regular talks that seem to have been very effective at building a small but highly collaborative and friendly team. The level of chatter and excitement in our office does not seem to imply a workplace where everyone keeps to themselves. Still, it's important that everyone on the team feel valued and connected, so I'll bring the points that you've made to the attention of the management team.
