    Approves of CEO

I worked at Alcon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good brands with science to back it up. Most employees are smart and work pretty hard. Part of Novartis which looks good on a resume. New CEO is smart and seems to be open to change.

    Cons

Very risk averse, compliance and regulatory reviews much more restrictive than competitors. Talk about strategy but manage by tactics, changing direction at the first sign of trouble. Poor accountability, choose to do something different vs. fix the execution issues that caused the trouble. High expectations but limited resources. Stressful. Limited opportunity to advance or take new jobs.

    Advice to Management

Hold senior managers accountable for how they manage their employees. Recognize the good managers to encourage this to continue. Rethink the way you assess risk vs reward. Revisit staffing - in recent years resources were added in sales, finance and compliance. But now other areas are suffering to the point of breaking.

    Pros

    Large company with good benefits

    Cons

Extremely bureaucratic company without much opportunity for advancement. Company is very risk adverse where managers follow a checklist, but not really allowed to lead.

    Advice to Management

Allow managers to lead and not just follow a checklist
