Bipolar leadership

Pros

Had one of my best experiences here with a great Manager up until the Manager was released because they were vocal and was not a 'Yes Person'. My manager fought for me to get a decent pay for the work I was going to do for the org. I was even scheduled for a pay rise synonymous with my work load, OKRs and daily tasks Great and knowledgeable team Work/life balance

Cons

Bipolar leadership. Leadership sets vision (by exciting and empowering us) and mission which is recalled after a short stint. (Such a downer) Decision by leadership to put ALX on ice as mission changed affected many livelihoods. Shortly after ALX was back on the radar.

Pros

- Visionary founder & CEO - Some really awesome people to work with - Noble organization mission - Cool pay

Cons

- Not much room for professional growth - A lot of politics in determining benefits, growth opportunities and compensation - Passive aggressive communication and intimidation - Unethical employee treatment - No clear outline of policies and escalation procedures that protect the rights of the employee, so there's are lots of loopholes that leave employees vulnerable and open to subjective managerial decisions

Things keep on changing.

Pros

You work with some of the smartest, highly-motivated people around.

Cons

-Goals that keep on changing often and projects get deprioritized on the whims of top leadership that you're unable to build a proper portfolio of work. -You're not really valued as an employee and often feel like you have to overwork in order to prove your worth. - Low compensation especially for African staff. -Dictatorial management where attendance is taken in zoom meetings. - Disconnect between values and behaviors. So much talk about being customer obsession when a lot of resources are poured into building the brand rather than actual day-to-day operations and employee satisfaction. - A lot of donor funding comes in but ends up benefiting a few at the top.
