In 2012 Karim Ali was conducting post-doctoral research into the application of neural networks to computer vision at UC Berkeley and Harvard. It seemed to him that conventional wisdom was wrong, and the cloud was not in fact the answer to every software problem. He refocused his research on improving the computational and memory efficiency of neural networks with minimal concession to accuracy. That research evolved into Invision AI, a software company headquartered in Toronto with customers and partners around the world.
