Founded in 1996, the company is a major contributor to the Wine Project, an open-source initiative that helps Windows applications run on different operating systems, such as Linux or Mac OS X. The Wine Project promotes such open source software as Linux by providing users with the ability to tap into the availability of Windows applications. CodeWeavers also offers commercial products consisting of the CrossOver Office program, which lets Microsoft staples like Office, Word, and Excel run on Linux, and also provides implementation and consulting services on open-source software projects.
