      Financial Analyst Interview

      Nov 13, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Zayo in Sep 2020

      Interview

      1. Call with recruiter 2. Video call with the team 3. Case study 4. Video call with manager The interview process was easy, but I saw some red flags right away. First, every single person I spoke to called me a diversity hire to my face. Threw me off and gave the impression that I was only being considered because I wasn't a straight, white male. Second, the video call with the team was disorganized. People were late, and they kept asking me the same question over and over. They left me exactly one minute to ask them questions. Showed how little they valued my time. When I had my final interview with the manager, he would ask me a question, check his emails, and not listen. Everyone is busy (and I understand that), but at least have the decency to not visibly check your phone when your video camera is turned on

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Why financial analysis? 2. Explain VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables 3. How are your excel skills? 4. Explain how income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows connect

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Zayo (Denver, CO) in Jun 2018

      Interview

I should mention that I was an intern before interviewing; four weeks into my internship and I saw the position, so I applied. I also emailed an HR person, and they forwarded my resume to the Hiring Manager. Maybe two days later I was asked to setup an interview time (it was during my internship). I was taken to coffee and it was laid back (30 minutes). Had a second interview a couple of days later. Again, it was laid back and this was going to be the manager I reported to.

      Financial Analyst Interview

      Dec 18, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Zayo (Denver, CO) in Jun 2017

      Interview

I was contacted by a local Apex Systems agent to apply for a position in Denver while I was NOT actively seeking employment. After being badgered via calls and emails multiple times per day for a week or two, I decided to further explore the opportunity. The recruiter had assured me I was a great fit for their client, Zayo, and she had set up an interview. After two brief phone interviews, I was set for an onsite interview. When meeting the team onsite in Denver, it seemed as if the team did not know what they wanted from this position but rather to collect information on what they may be looking for in a candidate to fill the position down the road. The interview was with two executives and a third jumped in halfway through which basically caused the interview to restart from the beginning. It was very unprofessional and seemed like some frat brothers looking to "haze" freshman. They acted as if they were better than me and tried to intimidate me as an interviewing candidate by asking outrageous and irrelevant questions. They asked about CRM's I have previously used then acted as if they did not exist because they haven't heard of them all while quickly jotting down the CRM names for later use. They even tried to get me to discuss projects for my current position in extreme detail to the point where they would try to copy down some of the analysis techniques and processes my firm used as unique differentiation. After the interview I heard nothing until I sent a follow-up email a week later. The Apex recruiter immediately called me and told me the team had never received approval to hire for this position and that the position did not exist. In the end, it seemed like an opportunity for the Zayo team to gather additional industry knowledge and learn about CRM's and financial analysis which they had no understanding of. I was sent on a wild goose chase with no achievable results.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Explain a project where you used excel? What functions did you use? How did you use these functions? How do you do a vlookup? What numbers are you looking at when you do this analysis and how do you calculate them? Explain how you collect this information and execute a pivot table? What processes do you do to analyze a business? Walk us through this process. What is your least favorite state and why? What is your experience with CRM's? What CRM's do you use?
      Answer question
