      Backend Developer Interview

      Oct 9, 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Tashkent
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Xeneta (Tashkent) in Dec 2022

      Interview

In short, it was a pleasant hiring process :) I felt no pressure and wasn't too stressed about it, it was clear that interviewer wanted to know more about me and my experiences rather than doing "algorithms smoke test"

      Question 1

We were mostly talking about my experience and the company, but I after the interview I got take-home task It required me to learn new stuff, as I never heard about SQL queries with recursive CTEs before

The process was smooth, and I really liked it. There were a lot of good questions that made it engaging and insightful. It was quite long but well-structured and thorough overall.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Xeneta

      Interview

I got invited to the first interview. I was not selected further. The interview went for 45 minutes and it felt like a waste of time. HR asks you questions answers to which are literally mentioned in your resume and also occasionally throws in some behavioral questions. The recruiter writes down your answers and then you are evaluated for the next stage. It would make much more sense if the selection was based first on technical skills (test task), and then on behavioral followed by technical rounds with teams. Let recruiters ask only behavioral questions. The first stage could be a 15 minutes call to get in touch and chat about the position, considering that there is a test task. Also later in the process you are asked for references which is old school. The recruiter was very nice though.

      Question 1

      - Did you use Docker? - Did you use SQL? - Did you use git? - Which Python framework did you use? - Did you use cloud services? - Why this company? - Do you know what we do?
