      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at WhiteHat Security (Houston, TX) in Apr 2013

      Interview

Applied online. Had to answer like 10 questions based around web technologies on application. Had a phone interview with HR then was setup for a interview at the site. They gave me some information to study. Went to the interview which is located in the Galleria area in Houston in some office building. Their office doesn't even look like an office space. Just a desk and door. Was told to wait. Eventually was brought inside beyond that door to see a giant dark room with about 30 computer cubicles all the way in the back with people on them. Garbage and clutter on the sides of the walls. I was then brought into another room with two guys. The first guy was a trainer who was there for the entire interview. The other guy was just one of 3 different people who came in to ask me questions. No dress code here, but still the interviewers weren't even dressed up which I thought was unprofessional. They told me job position was testing cross-site scripting attacks on customer web sites. They asked me some questions on some of the information the HR woman told me to read up on. Didn't have much of a problem there. Then they asked me questions on how I would attack a website. So they loaded up some fake vulnerable web site for me to inject code into. This I didn't know much about but had a general idea since I know some javascript and html. Did pretty well for the most part. The last interviewer came off as real pretentious and condescending to me (then again it seemed everyone I met here had this nerdy pretentiousness about them (stereotypical computer programmer with poor social skills type)). This guy was supposedly in a smaller management position. A real know it all but didn't really know everything. The other interviewer (young kid) who was a trainer that had been there the whole interview process was snide on telling me my way out after the interview ended. I found that that to be dumb because their office is a giant dark room of clutter.Overall I felt the company lied to me about how they were looking for people with no experience in web security. Which they had stated in their application. The application just stated they were looking for people with some web knowledge. The HR woman told me the pay was $30,000 which I didn't care for but I had been desperately looking for anything at the time to get my foot in the door. So basically they wasted my time and theirs.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They give you different variations on using cross-site scripting. None of them were too difficult and they gave me some hints. If you have a lot of experience in this it should be fairly easy.

      Interview

Conducted via zoom. Lasted around half an hour, a few competency questions and one or two technical questions. Interview was relatively informal and the person interviewing was helpful in answering any questions I had.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WhiteHat Security in Jul 2014

      Interview

Was contacted by recruiter, had an initial phone screen, and then an onsite. Onsite had to be delayed for 2 weeks because hiring team took a long vacation. When the interview was finally scheduled, it was about 2 hrs, they email you a doc file with a link to a URL that lists the threats and web security issues that they expect you to fully comprehend. Interviewers acted pretentious and snobby and were not very helpful during the process. Pay was a strict 40k for the Santa Clara office, which is absurdly below market value. I'm not sure who would want to work for these people.

      Question 1

All the info they will ask you is on the doc file they email you if they choose to bring you onsite
