      Memphis Role Interview

      Jun 26, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Memphis, TN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at W. M. Barr (Memphis, TN) in Feb 2017

      Interview

My experience interviewing with W.M. Barr was strange to say the least. First, let me start off by stating that they use external recruiters for this process, which in my opinion makes everything more difficult than it needs to be. Prior to visiting the facilities, I had multiple interviews with the recruiting coordinators and a skype interview with Barr employees. When I finally got the chance to interview in person, the experience was a bit strange. Let me start off with the positives: Pros: Upper management was really welcoming and there seems to be a very laid back culture. Most of the people I interviewed with were nice enough people as well. Cons: 1) The organization clearly doesn't have it together. They seem to be all over the place in terms of the business, and even with the interview process for new employees. I had a lot of unanswered questions because HR didn't have the answers to them. 2) Terrible company culture and morale: I had a total of about 10 interviews when I visited. Out of those interviews, 2 of them made me realize early on that this company wasn't for me and I lost total interest in being there. One employee point blank told me that I was making a mistake applying for a job there. Another lady spoke terribly about her peers and said that even if I did the bare minimum, I would still be light years ahead of my peers because the bar is set so low there. 3) After I completed my day visit, they called me a few more times for more interviews. Furthermore, the recruiting agency contacted me to tell me that they were sending me an offer. 2 weeks later they contacted me to say that they were moving forward with another candidate. While I was ok with this, my suggestion to the company and recruiting agency would be to stop being so unprofessional with this stage. 5) Rejection- I never received any communication from the company or recruiters regarding the rejection. Instead the recruiter gave me a 30 second phone call and hung up the phone before I could ask any questions. I was interested in receiving feedback for my interviewing skills.

      Question 1

You seem to really care about the consumer and their wants and needs. Well we don't care about that, we are about launching products. Would you be able to change this mentality? If not, you will have a big problem fitting in here.
