      Marketing Coordinator Interview

      Jul 28, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Beaverton, OR
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Votion (Beaverton, OR) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL MARKETING ROLE. For the interview process, it was fairly quick and they let you know the same day whether you move on or not. I made it to the second round but had to walk out after learning about their company. Their “marketing coordinator” role is essentially a sales position. Votion markets itself as a marketing company knowing that marketing is a very broad term. They are a sales company that implements one marketing tactic, direct face-to-face marketing (salesmen in store hassling shoppers about products). They are a sales company with a sales training program that they say is “marketing”. And their so called management career route depends on the success of the people you hire under you. Sounds all to similar to a pyramid scheme to me. I hate it when sales companies market themselves as marketers and waste traditional marketing job seekers time by sprucing up their job postings and website to look like a marketing company to “look better”. This is not the first time this has happened to me and Votion directly mirrors my past experiences on the matter.

      Marketing Coordinator Interview

      Feb 22, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Beaverton, OR
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at Votion (Beaverton, OR)

      Interview

I was cold called and asked a few questions over the phone where they then asked me to come in for an interview. I then went to their office for a quick 30 minute interview with a manager who then explained that I'd basically be standing in a big box store (Home Depot) selling services (DirectTV, AT&T). I was not impressed with the lack of transparency in the ad posting and initial phone conversation about the position. Yes, they do point out that it is a direct marketing position, but when 'marketing coordinator' is used to title an exclusively sales based job, that raises some red flags. If you're a person who is enthusiastic about sales this seems like it'd be a good fit. If you're a recent grad wanting to enter the industry and learn about strategy, branding, CRM systems, paid & unpaid search, or any of the other million facets of marketing, this most likely is not for you and you'd be better off extending your job search (as much as job searching sucks). I decided the position wasn't for me and declined a second interview

Thank you for your review; we appreciate the opportunity to see how we can improve. Votion takes pride in transparency and being upfront with our candidates and employees alike. So we are very sorry to hear you had a negative experience. Having said that, we are obligated to keep our clients' identities confidential until the interview due to non-disclosure. Votion does not cold call — we only respond to applications received, whether by the applicant directly or by the job site they use on their behalf. Lastly, Votion is a direct (person-to-person) marketing firm. We do not use indirect (advertising, digital media, promotional materials) tactics for our clients. Since we are not authorized to sell or finalize sales for our clients, we certainly cannot be accurately described as sales-based, although we employ similar tactics. If there's any additional feedback you have on how we can further prevent confusion in the future, please send that to our Human Resources Department.
