      Writer Interview

      Aug 7, 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Voices in Jul 2014

      Interview

Applied for the job on a Saturday and was called the following Tuesday, while I was out of town. Caller didn't leave a message and I only noticed because I have call display. I called back on Thursday and the interview was scheduled for the following day. I was told the interview would last one hour. The interviewer, who was also the co-founder, was pleasant but somewhat awkward. She asked many questions, some of them rather obtuse (though that's fairly typical). She took many notes and the interview lasted just under one hour. I spent a few hours researching the company (I only had 24 hours to prepare and I already have a full-time job). I was surprised that the interviewer seemed to expect that I would be as knowledgeable about the company and voice acting as she was. Then, as I was preparing to leave, I was told there would be a 30-minute writing and editing test. I was asked to write a 250-word article about voice acting AND edit a 250-word article full of spelling and grammatical mistakes. Even for a professional writer/editor, that's pushing it. Also, I was using the company's old laptop, which was hardly ideal. I left feeling pretty awful about the whole experience. It didn't help that, when I returned to my car, I found a parking ticket. My advice to Voices.com: next time, tell interviewees that the process will take 90 minutes, not one hour. Overall, I was left feeling this was an immature company.
