      Interview

Virtu is the most unprofessional company I have ever interviewed with, and I have interviewed with a dozen trading companies in my college years and career. They refused to reimburse me for my taxi costs even though they explicitly stated they would reimburse that, before I agreed to interview with them. They just ignored my multiple email requests regarding this issue. Unbelievably unprofessional. First, they gave you a very easy online coding test, regardless of your experience, which is quite ridiculous for candidates with a few years of industry experience. A true waste of time, since the test was like 1.5 hours, very easy but time consuming. The hotel they provided was pretty bad, and a rather long walk from their office. Definitely much worse compared to other elite companies' provided accommodations. They would not reimburse you for meals either. Their office has a great view, which is the only positive thing about the company. No free lunch at the company. The interview was very straightforward and very easy. Since I am experienced, they primarily asked about my work experience. No technical or "fit" questions. I met with the CEO. He was a cool guy. Keep in mind that he is not a technical person, yet people there claimed that he was the person who determined everyone's bonus personally... Not sure if that's good or bad if you are a technical person (technology, quant, trader...). They expected everyone to work 12 hours a day, yet based on public compensation data, their pay is way below similarly sized D, C or T, not to mention smaller elite HF shops such as J or H. My friends who worked at KCG and later resigned from Virtu also confirmed this fact. Overall, the people there were pleasant to talk with. However, I was extremely shocked by how cheap and unprofessional this company is. Perhaps this is typical of a public company, since one of my interviews said the owner Vincent would personally make a phone call if there is a couple hundred dollars discrepancy in their costs. He claimed one of Virtu's "strengh" is to save costs to the dollars. Well, that's probably great for investors and owners, but terrible for employees.

A candidate's interviewing experience with Virtu is of the utmost importance to our company. Please note that Virtu covers all transportation costs, meals up to $50 a day on the day of travel and on the candidates interview day, and hotel arrangements for all full time candidates during the interview trip. Reimbursement checks will be processed after a candidate submits their receipts to our firm, which is communicated to all candidates. If it has been longer than 3 weeks, please email recruiting@virtu.com and we’d be happy to look into this. Hours that employees work at Virtu are not measured by management. What is measured is the productivity, value and spirit that our employees bring to our company. Regarding Virtu’s total compensation, publicly available sources may not accurately reflect Virtu’s total compensation paid to employees. Virtu greatly values employee confidentiality and sensitive employee data such as salary and variable compensation information is not made available to the public. Thank you for your comments and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Was really informative, interviewer was nice and calm, the process was constructive. One of the more positive experiences i've had after being reached out to, though certainly difficult. Prepare thoroughly, and be ready for variations of problems.
