      Project Manager Interview

      Nov 11, 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Upstatement

      Interview

Overall it was a transparent and supportive process. I got to ask a ton of questions and learn more about the work from various people across the company. Everyone I met was kind and thoughtful.

      Project Manager (PM) Interview

      Sep 24, 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Upstatement in Sep 2022

      Interview

Process: • Submitted an application. • ~2 weeks later HR arranged a video interview with the director of project management. • 90-minute call with the team during which the applicant presents their past PM work and learns more about the company’s work. • Meet-and-greet with leadership. • If the team is debating between a few candidates, there may be one last interview to narrow it down. Impressions of the Company & Role: This is a growing, in-demand studio that is starting to hire more people. PMs run several stand-ups each day and attend resource and planning meetings with other PMs throughout the course of a standard week. PMs run workshops and conduct interviews during the research phase. Client communication takes place through Slack. The team uses Jira. Pros of first interview: • Interviewer was on time. • Interviewer thoroughly (and kindly) answered my many questions. • Interviewer seemed to be a proponent of team members learning from colleagues during the onboarding phase. • I had the impression that there has traditionally been low turnover and that many employees have grown with the company. Cons of first interview: • The call started with a note that this was simply a quick conversation before the more formal vetting stages and ended with an overview of the next steps. Do not take this at face value; you can still be rejected at the end of this call. • The interviewer did not ask many PM-related job questions. It’s up to the applicant to lead the conversation. I recommend that applicants pull up the posted job description and speak to each bullet to clearly outline all relevant experience. Advice to interviewer: • Please stick with the more traditional “we’ll be in touch if interested” and do not introduce the interview as a quick chat before the next steps. It’s misleading. • Ask more PM-related job questions even if a candidate does not immediately strike you as being the right cultural fit. You may be surprised. *Please note this intended as guidance for future applicants, not as criticism of the interviewer. Having interviewed many candidates in the past, I know it can be tricky and even trying, especially at the end of a long week. Good luck to all applicants!
