Initially spoke with the hiring manager. They were straightforward and asked relevant questions which required thoughtful questions. After I was set up to talk to an HR representative; this is where things went a little off the rails. The hiring manager described this call as informative in terms of salary, benefits, culture, etc. but the HR rep treated it as an interview of their own. They asked irrelevant questions and could not answer any of my follow up questions about the position, it was awkward. Following that interaction a few weeks went by and I was asked to go onsite for the final interviews. The office was inviting and the people were kind and intuitive. All around this was a positive experience and a good learning opportunity for a young professional.

Interview process went very quickly, recruiter was very communicative throughout the whole process and I did get a response back quickly after the 3rd stage of the interview process, which unfortunately for me was a rejection. 4 Rounds of Interviews for the whole process: Recruiter Screen>Hiring Manager>3 Interviews with various employees(virtual onsite)> CCO if you made it past the prior step. Everyone was very pleasant, really showed Upstart had a great culture, interview was very conversational. One of the most pleasant interview experiences I've had. I would definitely consider interviewing with them again in the future.
