Title: Misalignment in Role Expectations During Interview Process
I recently went through the interview process for a software engineering role. The initial communication suggested that the position was primarily frontend-focused with some full-stack exposure.
However, during the discussion with the hiring manager, it became clear that the expectations were more aligned with backend development, specifically requiring experience with a different tech stack. Interestingly, the manager also mentioned that if the role were frontend-focused, my experience would have been a strong fit.
Later, during a follow-up discussion, I requested to reschedule based on the updated understanding of the role. However, I was informed that the expectation was for a more frontend-aligned candidate, without further evaluation.
This created a noticeable mismatch between the role described initially and the actual expectations during the process. It would be beneficial to have better alignment between recruiters and hiring teams to ensure clarity for candidates.
That said, the interviewers were polite, and the overall process was smooth.
Suggestion: Clear communication of role expectations and the required tech stack at the beginning of the process would significantly improve the candidate experience.
