I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at US Census Bureau (Tampa, FL) in Mar 2020
Interview
Very easy online form, got a call the next day with some simple questions about availability and willingness for confidentiality. The job is only temporary, but decent hourly pay and a nice filler while looking for other work. You will need to get fingerprints taken before being hired, if you're contacted and offered a position. Overall, I'd recommend the process to anyone. Could be interesting to be part of something that only happens every decade. Especially in today's climate. Was told that it can be uncomfortable and sketchy sometimes, so if you're not good with confrontation, maybe reconsider.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at US Census Bureau (Yauco, PR) in Mar 2020
Interview
Easy and very simple questions. They do a background check and don't discriminate about age. They ask really simple questions about your personality and how to react to different scenarios

I applied online. I interviewed at US Census Bureau (Branson, MO) in Feb 2016
Interview
After taking just a few minutes to read through the interview questions for the actual census I had to go through a mock census questionnaire as if taking responses from a household member but with interviewer instead. I was also asked standard interview questions such as my personal strengths weaknesses and best and worst qualities and so on.
