What a complete joke! I was referred by a current Center Manager--with an internal contact I was anticipating a more professional experience throughout the recruiting process. I was wrong. I first interviewed via phone for roughly 20 minutes on 12/14/12. I was told the next step would be to schedule another phone interview with the hiring manager and that it would last approx. 1 hour. The HR recruiter explained that with planned vacation and the holidays coming up it may be a bit touch-and-go over the next 2 weeks which was completely understandable. Once contacted, we set up a phone interview for 1/3 at 9am. At 8:55 HR called me and advised they needed to reschedule for next week and we would just move directly into the In-Person interviews. I thought at the time this was a good sign. I was out of town from 1/4-/1/14. After my vacation I tried calling the rep on her direct line for 3 weeks. No returned phone calls. I didn't call every day, more like every other day the first week then began to space my calls out the longer I went without a returned call. During this time I was also reaching out to my internal contact--apparently he was kept in the dark as well. Finally, in the 2nd week of February I received a call from the HR rep who said, "I bet you thought I was dead." Come to find out they had offered the position to an internal candidate, again, totally understandable, but instead of them lying to me and stringing me along with empty call back dates, rescheduling interviews, etc. I wish they would have just been upfront from the beginning.
After she explained the position had been filled, she asked if I would be interested in a different opening which was less responsibility and less pay. I politely turned down the offer out of respect for my internal contact but suffice it to say I will never apply with this company again nor would I recommend anyone be involved with this organization.
HR is the first line of involvement with any new hire--the key individuals for First Impressions--UMB could not have done a more unprofessional job in filling this position.
