      Senior User Experience/UI Designer Interview

      Nov 6, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TrainHeroic in Sep 2018

      Interview

I had multiple calls with HR, one call with the head of engineering, and one call with the head of Visual Design at a sister company. The process lasted over a month. I had a number of interactions with the HR recruiter, who was pleasant and ultimately the reason why I rated this a interview a positive experience. I was extremely excited to interview with this company, despite its small size compared to what I am used to. I think that the company does a lot to help people in inspirational ways, and I really saw value in that aspect of the company. Post rejection, the HR contact wrote a personal and kind email. It was much nicer than the generic "thank you for your time" email, and that was incredibly kind. I responded and asked for feedback and she wrote a detailed list of things that I could do to improve the way that I sell myself during interviews. I fel that this was extremely helpful for me, and I'll be able to utilize those tactics in the future.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at TrainHeroic (Denver, CO) in Aug 2018

      Interview

Phone Screen, a Group Video Call, 1 one-on-one video call, and 4h onsite interview + lunch. I sent some work samples, to which there was a follow up interview. There a design challenge, followed by a presentation to 6 team member. Process took about 5mo, partially due to my constraints of school at the time. During the 5 months, I really enjoyed the interaction with my primary contact (head of engineering). I also had the chance to meet team, all who were wonderful and enthusiastic about their work. Their HR and product team made the process extremely smooth which was nice considering it was longer than average. Ultimately, I decided to walk away due to the last few interactions I had with the head of the company which made me feel uncomfortable moving forward with them. In short, some of his comments came off gendered and unaware...I feel that's a part of the reason why there's a lack of diversity on the team, both in terms of people of color and women.
