I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Trader Joe's
Interview
When I went into the store to hand in my application and resume, the managers (mates) were very friendly, and one interviewed me on the spot. It was very casual and only took about five minutes. He told me that there would be three interviews, and this was the first one. We arranged the next one for two days later. This one lasted about half an hour, and covered questions I expected. This manager was also very friendly and personable, and our interview was more like a conversation. The next day, I met with the captain, or general manager of the store. He asked similar questions to the previous two interviews, though he also discussed wages, then at the end asked, "Why should I hire you?" I was a bit nervous, but they called me the next day to say they are hiring me.

Question 1
What are three of your strengths and three areas for improvement?
pretty good, asked a lot of questions, nice people, I have been a shopper with trader joes, the people are helpful, and I have done a lot of work in customer services, and I believe I will be a great fit at trader joes.
1 phone call, two in person, never got the job. Short and simple interview, the third one was long but it was just the employee yapping about the job and what they do. Pretty lame considering they already knew they weren’t going to hire me. Said they were gonna call me and never did. Just call and say that you don’t wanna hire me and move on, how hard is that?

Question 1
Tell me about yourself (classic). Why Trader Joe's, tell me about a time where you provided excellent service, etc pretty basic and easy questions.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's in Oct 2025
Interview
Applications in my area are accepted in-person and online. I'd applied online.
There were two interviews: one with two mates (supervisors) and one with the captain (store manager).
Communication was excellent; I was not left waiting long, though I do not recall exact timeframes.
I am not sure how to speak to interview difficulty. Compared to what? Two interviews is 'easy' compared to other processes I have gone through. The care going into the decision was just as careful though, it seems to me. So, 'difficult'. Questions were largely in the behavioral category, and it helped to have a few examples in mind. So, 'average'.

Question 1
Of course, they wanted to see how I'd handled various challenges in the past. While both interviews wanted to feel out if I (and my availability) would be a good fit, they were also intentional about prompting me to think about if they would be a good fit for me.
I do not remember the exact questions asked.
