I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Nashville, TN) in Aug 2011
Interview
I filled out an application after having a cordial conversation with an assistant manager at the Trader Joe's in Nashville TN. About a week later I had an interview with another assistant manager, and it went well. Normal questions were asked to get a sense of what you are like what you did.
The second interview came about week after that, and it was horrible. The main manager was really suspicious of me for some reason. Maybe he thought I was a corporate spy or something. He kept on interpreting my questions as inappropriate attempts to find out financial secrets, which is totally not true and no sane interviewer would interpret them that way. I suspect that he thought I was overqualified (I have a B.A. and good grades from a respectable university) or I am a corporate spy (which I am definitely not). I've worked years in retail and grocery stores, so it really didn't make sense.
I got a phone call about a week later saying they chose someone else, and they flat out refused to give me any feedback. A really negative experience, and now I really don't feel like ever shopping there again. The head manager seems light years away from the brand image they want to project.

Question 1
If you could wish for any job from a genie, what job would it be?
I had 3 separate interviews. 1 was over the phone. 2 were in person. I never heard anything after the third interview. I called the store about a week later and they let me know they didn’t actually have any available positions. Really felt like they wasted my time.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (West Hollywood, CA)
Interview
Casual, took place outside of the store. First I had a phone call interview. Then another which was in-person with 2 of the mates in the store, and finally a third in-person with the captain of the store.

Question 1
What was something I did for a friend that was above and beyond?
Different questions than I have experienced in past job interviews, but seem to be their traditional hiring questions. They want to make sure they are hiring sociable people more so than just someone that can do the job.
