OMG - a BIG BIG lack of talent management knowledge here ... A bit problematic for a company aiming at recruiting top talents...!
If by top talent they mean standard individual, with standardized set of skills, that they can treat like a machine or a robot, a bit "1984" style from Orwells, I guess Toptal is a wonderful place for talent !!
I mean.. seriously...the (2nd) interview I had for product manager was basically a person reading a list of questions, with NO EMPATHY whatsoever, even not a smile, and who barely said "hi"...Such a good start when it s about attracting talent.
This person forgot that an interview is going 2 ways, I did not see any soft skills at all in her, nor empathy, just arrogance and sense of superiority during this engagement. I could just picture how this person would treat the team or his/her peers and that was already a total no -go for me , no way you would like to be surrounded by people like this, who are self-called talent but display no sense of it :) .
I am leading teams and recruiting people every months, so I'm familiar with the recruiting process in general, and especially the recruiting process for talent... Not a good experience.
It s just my experience, it might be only that this particular individual was really REALLY bad, but it matches well the comments from the former employees about toxic culture.
My advice : go for the interview and check by yourself how bad they are :) It is a good experience and does not cost too much time nor energy to be selected.
