      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      May 14, 2025

      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tomo (New York, NY) in Jan 2024

      Interview

Initially the interview process was easy pretty easy and streamlined although lengthy - it's a 5 step process. I met with HR, then met with the CTO, then was given a take home assessment. After completing the assessment I submitted to the team, which led to a follow up interview to review my submit and walk through it with one of the managers and another dev. They seemed impressed enough on my work and even said things like" I'm rooting for you" and "We're on team [my name]". during the interview. That kind of sentiment prevailed throughout, and by the end it seemed apparent that they would recommend me for the next round - system design, followed by the final round. After radio silence for over a week, I finally heard received a generic "Thank you for your time" rejection email from a donotreply address. Absolutely deflating after all the time and effort i put into the whole process, they couldn't even give me a human response, just a generic automated email. Not to mention them amping me up for no reason only to massively disappoint me. I don't understand what the reason for doing such a thing is but it is certainly not professional or the way this process should be conducted. We as employees are people too, not just numbers, not just a cog to fill an empty slot. Tomo, please reevaluate how you conduct yourselves during the interview process. Don't waste interviewers time and energy for no reason on take home assessments, especially early in the process. Also, pleas make your rejection correspondence actually come from a human with whom the interviewer is familiar with. After asking for up to 5 rounds and a take home assessment it's the very least you can do to actually show you value our effort.
