      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Jul 24, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Toggl in Jul 2025

      Interview

Based on my experience and the number of product manager interview reviews on here, I came away with the impression they are just looking for free feedback and ideas for their platform. In the 3 weeks I was in the interview process, not once did I speak to a person at Toggl. Initial screening was 3 video answers to pretty generic questions (2 minutes max each). Then was a 4 hour homework assignment. The assignment was not given ahead of time and from start to finish they timed you. God forbid something came up in the middle of the assignment, or you have worked a full 8 hour day at another job and are brain dead by the time you start. The homework assignment had no way to ask probing or clarifying questions. No way to present to a team/panel and answer questions they had. Just a quick slide deck (or whatever format you want) and only 5 minutes to explain what took you several hours to compile. They did provide feedback on why I didn't move forward, but those would have been easily answered had I been able to present to an actual human being vs a 5 minute recording. Nevermind the fact that I wasn't sure I wanted to work here anyway, as the pay was low for what they are asking for, but culture seemed good. After weeks of "interviewing" and 99% of the work being on my end, it's a red flag to me for how work is done there and how they value their employees. If as a product manager, you are expected to analyze a part of the platform, provide a journey to revamp it - including ALL metrics - within an afternoon with NO input from anyone else, I definitely don't think it's a place I would like to work.

Analyze Track's user journey to propose 3-5 hypotheses to increase the percentage of users reaching the aha moment. then, prioritize your strongest hypothesis and design an experiment to validate it. make sure you consider how this experiment contributes to revenue growth.

      Interview

1st step of the process: 10 tasks, 25 minutes total. 4 questions are quite long, asking to write a proposition, steps, metrics and potential steps after results all within 4 minutes per question.

      Question 1

I can't remember full questions, but they are scenario based, such as: imagine you are a PM at a company that does this. How would you track the use of a function, which metrics would you introduce. What are the steps you would take based off of the results.

      Interview

Toggl has a five step interview process that's clearly outlined on their website. The first step was a short quiz to assess my knowledge. The second was a recorded video interview with three questions about my methodology and approach. The third was a take home assignment with a 24 hour deadline, followed by a live interview. I didn't progress to the fifth and final stage. Throughout the process, the Toggl team communicated very well. They set clear expectations for when I would hear back and consistently provided specific, thoughtful feedback after each stage. In the end, they explained that they were hiring for a very narrowly defined role and that I wasn't the right fit. While that was obviously disappointing, especially considering the time and effort involved, I appreciated the transparency. Compared to many interview processes, I think Toggl does a great job of communicating clearly and treating candidates respectfully, even when the outcome isn't what you hoped for.

Experience using AI Tools was a theme across the steps.
